Chicago PD boss on Sean O’Neal case: ‘It’s not over’

Sean O’Neal (Jefferson White) is bad news on Chicago PD. The son of the late police chief is guilty of a slew of crimes, including murder, kidnapping, and human trafficking. It seemed as though he was going to die in tragic fashion in the fall finale, but the IU managed to keep him alive.

So, with Sean in custody and recovering from a gunshot wound, the question invariably becomes: how will he factor into the rest of season 10? Will he go straight to prison? Will his condition draw sympathy from a jury?

Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan weighed in on the character’s future.

Did Sean O’Neal die on Chicago PD?

Sigan told TV Insider that Sean’s story is far from over, and that fans should expect to see a lot more of him on the back end of season 10.

“This man is still alive, and he’s exactly who he was before this happened”, she stated. “He says to them, ‘You can’t fix me. I won’t change.’ And he won’t. And so we are going to see him come back. Sean O’Neal will be back this season. It’s not over yet.”

This is big news, considering how much Sean has gotten under the skin of Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos). She made her mission to put Sean behind bars at any cost, and when she found that he’d been shot by his own father, she considered letting him bleed out. It was only when Voight (Jason Beghe) insisted she help that she changed her vengeful stance.

Will Sean’s continued presence on the show bring out the worst in Upton? Sigan told the outlet that he will definitely have an impact on the officer and the way in which she goes about getting justice for Sean’s victims. She also revealed when Sean will return: episode 12.

The gap between appearances makes sense, given that the injury he suffered and the type of permanent damage he’s likely to have as a result. It’s unclear whether Sean’s familial ties to the Chicago police department will come into play again, as they did in the past, but either way he will continue to be one of the show’s most chilling antagonists.
