Coronation Street confirms outcome of accident in Stephen Reid story

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street killer Stephen Reid will fear being caught out in a tense New Year storyline.

Stephen worries about his future after Teddy Thompkins survives a freak accident on the cobbles – which keeps him around as a potential threat.

As we recently revealed, this year’s Christmas episodes see Teddy realise that his missing son Leo never arrived in Canada. This supposed trip was part of Stephen’s cover-up after he killed Leo in September.

Teddy finds out that the misleading texts which suggested Leo had left the country came from somebody in Weatherfield.

After speaking to Stephen about the troubling situation, Teddy prepares to spread the word that Leo could have been harmed. However, when he crosses the street, Teddy is hit by a van.

Stephen privately hopes this will be the end of Teddy, needing him out of the way for good.

Confident that Teddy won’t survive as the signs don’t look good, Stephen spins a false story to continue covering up the truth about Leo’s death.

Stephen tells Jenny Connor that Teddy confided in him shortly before the road accident. He claims that Teddy saw Leo during his recent trip to Canada, and was upset when Leo revealed that he didn’t want to see Teddy or Jenny ever again.

This bogus story later comes under threat when Teddy unexpectedly regains consciousness at the hospital.

Although Teddy can’t remember exactly what happened in the days leading up to his accident, Jenny assures him that his memory will return in time. A panicking Stephen hopes that she’s wrong.

Things only get worse for Stephen when Jenny announces that she has invited Teddy to move into the Rovers Return while he recovers.

Stephen feels powerless when Jenny proceeds with her plan, helping Teddy into the pub after he’s discharged from hospital. Is there anything Stephen can do to prevent the truth from coming out?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
