Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Earlier this year, Wendy (played by Kerr) returned to the cobbles resuming her romantic connection with Ken, but things are about to change.
Upcoming scenes will see Ken bump into his former flame Martha (played by Beacham) who turns his head, leaving Ken in the middle of a love triangle with the two women.
Speaking to TV Times, Beacham and Kerr opened up about what the two women can offer Ken and their different romantic styles.
“Somebody said to me that when you attach yourself to Martha, you’re in for a whirlwind ride,” said Beacham. “Now, you might enjoy that, or it might be too much for you. Martha has had adventures and Ken hasn’t, really.”
While Martha offers Ken excitement, Kerr said that Wendy seems like “small fry compared to Martha,” adding that “it only takes a blast from the past for you to want to shake things up”.
According to Kerr, Martha’s ability to turn Ken’s head may not last long and the soap star hinted that Wendy is more likely to stick around for Ken.
“I think Martha’s probably more of a flash in the pan, while Wendy would be there for the long haul. But that may not happen… who knows?”
Discussing Corrie‘s decision to showcase a love triangle between older characters, Beacham said: “I think the storyline is completely delightful.”
Agreeing with Beacham, Kerr said: “I love this storyline. To me, age is absolutely meaningless.”
Recently, Ken Barlow actor Bill Roache opened up about Martha’s return saying: “When I found out that Martha was also going to make a return I was thrilled, but I fear heartache may be round the corner once more for Ken now he has found himself in another love triangle.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
