Coronation Street’s Gemma Winter to stage big protest in 2023 storyline

Gemma Winter is set to stage a big protest as part of a new storyline in 2023 on Coronation Street.

In scenes set to air on the New Year, Gemma is left concerned after learning that Chesney Brown’s son Joseph has gotten into trouble for using sign language at school.

Fans will know that the family have been using sign language since Aled was diagnosed with profound hearing loss back in 2020.

Gemma and Bernie decide to go to the school and confront Mrs York, Joseph’s teacher – however, she is dismissive of Joseph’s BSL skills.

This turn of events leaves Gemma and Bernie furious, and they decide to stage a sit-in in the classroom with the demand that BSL is taught to all the pupils.

However, Michael gets locked in with them, having only come by to discuss Glory’s start date at the nursery.

News of the protest soon reaches the residents of the street, with many tuning into the livestream that Gemma has created as news reaches Chesney.

In the end, Mrs York decides to lock the classroom door, telling the three that they can sit there overnight.

Elsewhere, Coronation Street has hinted at a possible wedding storyline for Gemma and Chesney in 2023 amid the couple’s attempts to cover up Tyrone Dobbs’s planned nuptials to Fiz Stape on Christmas Day.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
