Coronation Street’s Nina to fall into river in 2023 storyline

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street will kick off 2023 with a bang as Nina Lucas faces a near-death experience.

Nina finds herself in peril while out searching for her uncle Roy Cropper, who refuses to embrace modern technology by buying himself a mobile phone.

In upcoming scenes, Roy confides in his friends Evelyn Plummer and Brian Packham about a project he has been working on.

Roy explains that he has been secretly studying for his VBRV – a Volunteer Bat Roost Visitor qualification.

As early January arrives in Weatherfield, Roy arranges for Nina, Brian and Asha Alahan to join him at the bat group meeting in the woods. First of all, though, he needs to drop off Evelyn at a friend’s house.

When Roy leaves, Nina and Brian receive a message informing them that the bat group meeting has been cancelled at the last minute.

While they’d be able to send a quick text with anyone else, Nina and Brian are frustrated that they have no way of getting in touch with a phoneless Roy.

Unaware that the bat-related activity has been called off, Roy goes off into the woods and accidentally drops his thermos in the river.

Nina, Asha and Brian later turn up and fear the worst when they spot Roy’s empty car but he’s nowhere to be seen. Roy’s thermos is also floating in the river, which doesn’t look good.

Nina goes to the river bank to investigate, but slips, bangs her head and falls into the water.

Asha panics, while Brian rushes in to drag an unconscious Nina out.

Asha also steps in by calling an ambulance for Nina, who needs emergency treatment at the hospital. How will Roy react when he finds out?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
