EastEnders’ Brian Conley shares which character he wanted Rocky to be with

EastEnders spoilers follow.

Following Rocky’s engagement to Kathy on EastEnders earlier this week, actor Brian Conley has revealed who he wanted his character to end up with.

Despite the happy news for the couple, Conley wanted his character to be with Tameka Empson’s Kim Fox so he could spend more time filming with the actress.

Saying he ‘loves’ Empson, Conley disclosed: “When I first came in, I wanted Rocky to be in a full-on relationship with Kim for the great comedy. We could have been shooting scenes in bed like Morecambe and Wise, just talking about the world. It would have been really funny.”

Conley also revealed he wants to work more with Lacey Turner and Gillian Wright, who play Stacey and Jean respectively, with Conley describing them as “great actresses”.

The actor, who joined the soap last year, also spoke of the importance of depicting male friendship on screen, praising the show’s writers for their portrayal.

“I like that they show this blokey football banter between Rocky, Mick, Harvey and Mitch but that they can also talk to each other. It’s important to show that it’s good for men to talk and that friends genuinely care about each other,” he said.

“I get on very well with all the actors who play Rocky’s friends, and we try to make our scenes come alive by peppering in bits where we take the mickey and be funny,” he concluded.

Conley recently teased the developments of Rocky’s storyline, with the actor saying his character had “some skeletons in the closet”.

“I can only hope that he’s not as evil as Nick, but I think there are some skeletons in the closet, and we don’t really know about them yet,” he said. “What has Rocky really done for the last thirty years? I’m intrigued! I think there are plans to find out… I’d like to know what made him so insecure and the man he is.”

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
