EastEnders’ Gillian Wright forced to leave panto after injury

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Gillian Wright has been forced to drop out of her upcoming pantomime appearance after falling and breaking her wrist during rehearsals.

Revealing the news via her Instagram account, the Jean Slater actress wrote: “Rehearsing a wonderful Wicked Queen in this lovely script, with these lovely people at Central Theatre in Chatham..Took a little fall in dance …broke my wrist.

“Carried on with marvellous support from cast & crew & theatre, sporting a plaster cast, glittery sling & with the help of painkillers got through & did the Opening Night!”

Wright had been set to play pantomime villain the Wicked Queen in a production of Snow White up until December 31.

Despite being able to perform in the show’s opening night, Wright went on to add that, following surgery on her wrist, she had been instructed to rest up in order to allow the break to heal.

“Surgery following day & suddenly my wrist has a metal plate & pins in it & I’ve strict instructions for the plate to settle and that’s me out of the show,” she shared.

“Gutted. Can’t believe the enormous repercussions of a little fall.”

The actress ended the post by thanking the hospital staff for their care during her surgery and wished replacement actress Samantha Hughes good luck in the role.

“Thank you Samantha for being so brilliant! Thank you cast mates for being so supportive! Will miss the adventure with you all!” she added.

Wright is most known for her role as Jean on EastEnders, having been a part of Walford since 2004.

In upcoming scenes over the New Year, Jean and the rest of the Slaters are set to be involved in a shock storyline — which will see the family fall ill after a carbon monoxide leak.

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
