EastEnders star Max Bowden has praised his “courageous” on-screen daughter Isabella Brown.

The Ben Mitchell actor took to Instagram in support of Isabella, who portrays Ben and Lola Pearce’s daughter Lexi and has become more prominent on screen due to Lola’s tragic cancer storyline.

Sharing a sweet photo of him and Isabella as Ben and Lexi in the snow, Max wrote: “Adore this photo of me and our little princess. This girl makes every day at work an absolute joy.

“Seeing her grow every day for the last four years has been so beautiful. We’re so lucky to have such a courageous, curious, caring little person playing Lexi. She’s the future!”

Danielle Harold, who plays Lola, commented: “We are very lucky.”

Lola’s devastating storyline began in October when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and later told that her illness is terminal.

In upcoming scenes, Lola will receive more bad news as Christmas approaches and is left heartbroken when her hair starts to fall out.

EastEnders has been consulting with Brain Tumour Research and Macmillan Cancer Support while working on the emotional scenes.

Previously discussing the storyline and the importance of portraying it accurately with guidance from the charities, Danielle told Digital Spy: “It’s been really emotional, really tough.

“It’s a really hard storyline to do, what with it meaning so much to so many people, so we’re trying to make sure we get all the points and beats right. It’s been really emotional, really hard.

“It’s always scary when you’re asked to do a big storyline like this, that so many people are going through. It’s such a real subject. I was really nervous and I just hope that I’ve done it justice.”

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
