Emmerdale boss promises big story for Cathy and more focus on younger characters

Emmerdale’s executive producer Jane Hudson has promised that there is a big story coming for Cathy Hope, as well as an increased focus on the show’s younger characters.

The youngsters have been on the sidelines for a while, but the show has now promised to give them some more focus as the characters grow up.

In an interview with Digital Spy and other press, the Emmerdale boss talked about what we can expect from the show in the future.

“A lot of our young characters have got stories coming up. You get to an age with our young cast when you suddenly realise they’re growing up. They’ve been off screen for a few weeks then they come back and they’re a foot taller and their voice is deeper and we go ‘oh my gosh, we need to start growing them up in the show’,” Hudson explained.

“I think for Rosie Bentham who plays Gabby, we kept her at 15 for about three years and she eventually went ‘you do know my character’s 18 now?’ We were like ‘oh gosh yeah we need to grow you up’,” she continued.

“You’ll see a really big story for Cathy, Bob’s daughter, which is really emotional. It’s her first big story really and it’s a challenging one and I think it’s one that a lot of parents will connect with. It’s one I haven’t seen a soap do before.

“Noah and Amelia have got their story going on. Amelia’s had her baby and Noah’s kind of being a surrogate father but Samson is going to be more devious then usual in terms of looking after himself. It will cause big arguments with his father Sam, so they’ve got a big storyline going on,” she added.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
