Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale‘s Gabby Thomas is set to embark on a new romance soon, although in typical soap fashion, it looks as though things won’t be straightforward.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other press outlets, the soap’s executive producer Jane Hudson explained that they are bringing in a new character as Gabby’s love interest, rather than setting her up with anyone already established on the show.
“We’ve got another new actor – Lewis Cope who’s playing Nicky the nanny, the manny, at Home Farm. I think it’s the first time Home Farm has had a nanny,” Hudson said.

“He’s a very good looking nanny who catches the eye of Gabby the minute he walks in for the interview and it’s plain for everyone to see that her focus is not on who will look after the children the best, but who will look after her the best!”
She added: “So there’s lots of fun in store for Nicky and Gabby as we watch their fledgling romance – and like any good story, there will be a few reveals along the way…”
Nicky will be introduced next week as Kim Tate gets Gabby and Dawn Fletcher to shadow her at the business, with the promise that one of them will be offered a permanent job at the end. To help lighten their schedules, they hold interviews for a new nanny and Nicky wins out.

The soap’s regular time slot has been rearranged in the past few weeks, due to the World Cup matches and it seems as though the schedule shake-up will continue over the festive period, even after the tournament ends.
Over Christmas, Emmerdale will have some extra weekend editions alongside its usual weekday instalments. Thankfully, the TV timetable for December 23 to January 2 has already been released, so soap fans can familiarise themselves with the upcoming schedule changes.
Emmerdale usually airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
