Emmerdale first look at Cain Dingle’s flashback episode

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has offered fans their first glimpse of a special flashback episode that’s due to air on Boxing Day.

The ITV1 soap will be turning the clock back to the early ’90s in order to explain the latest life-changing twist for the Dingle family.

Show bosses have cast former Waterloo Road actor Will Ash as Caleb, who’s the long-lost brother of Cain Dingle.

Cain has known about the existence of Caleb for decades, but has always avoided telling the rest of the family.

Emmerdale‘s hour-long Christmas Day special will see Caleb visit Cain in prison.

Caleb expresses his surprise that their mother Faith has recently passed away. He recalls how Cain told him their mother was dead 30 years ago.

Now aware of everything he has missed out on, Caleb demands an explanation for why Cain lied to him. He’s bitterly resentful over Cain taking away his opportunity to get to know his family.

Cain is unmoved by Caleb’s complaints, warning him to stay away from the Dingles.

The next day, Cain prepares himself to see his wife Moira at the prison.

A flashback then explains the full story behind Caleb and Cain and shows younger versions of the characters – played by Riccardo Drayton and Aiden Kane respectively.

Emmerdale‘s executive producer Jane Hudson recently told Digital Spy and other media: “When Caleb visits Cain in prison, we will discover that Cain knew Caleb existed and he’s known about him for 30 years.

“On Boxing Day, we will rewind to 1992 and we will discover how Cain and Caleb first met, why Cain then rejected him from his life, and what was going on with Chas at that point.

“We have three fantastic actors playing our young Cain, Caleb and Chas. Aiden Kane, the actor who plays Cain, actually studied lots of footage of Jeff Hordley and his positions and his poses and how he speaks. It’s incredible when you watch.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
