Emmerdale hints mystery character could return next summer

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale’s executive producer Jane Hudson has hinted that there is a chance that a mystery character could possibly return to the show next summer.

In an interview with Digital Spy and other press, the producer opened up about what we can expect from the show in the future and if there were any characters who will make a return.

Speaking about what viewers can expect, she said: “We are busy working on summer storylines and I always like to have a summer spectacular. So if I say that, I have to come up with something now!”

Hudson also hinted that a character from the past may come back: “Ooh! I can’t tell you! I can’t say! We’re working on June storylines at the minute and I thought [about a return] and thought: ‘Viewers would love that!'”

This mysterious character’s return has not yet been confirmed, but is something the show is considering at the moment.

Meanwhile, a lot seems to be going on in Emmerdale, as it has revealed plans for Cain Dingle’s flashback scenes for Boxing Day.

Cain will be paid a visit from his long-lost brother, Caleb.

“Cain will get a visit from his brother on Christmas Day – Caleb, played by Will Ash,” explained Hudson, “On Boxing Day, we will rewind to 1992 and we will discover how Cain and Caleb first met, why Cain then rejected him from his life, and what was going on with Chas at that point.”

Chas Dingle’s affairs will be exposed soon as well.

“We’ve got Paddy and Chas, who are absolutely in their worst place. The affair’s been discovered and they are forced to spend Christmas Day together – and it does not go well,” said Hudson in an interview.

She continued: “We’re continuing our story with Chas and Paddy and how you navigate trying to be the best parents you can when your marriage is falling to pieces and one of you has had an affair.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
