Emmerdale newcomer Lewis Cope has discussed the possibility of a twist in newcomer Nicky’s storyline.
The ITV1 soap recently announced that Lewis had been cast in the role of Nicky, who’s about to start working as Home Farm’s new nanny.
Wednesday’s hour-long episode (December 14) sees Nicky arrive in the village as Gabby Thomas, Dawn Fletcher, Billy Fletcher and Kim Tate hold interviews for the position.
Although he’s not everyone’s first choice for the job, Nicky ends up as the successful candidate – much to the delight of Gabby, who’s smitten with him.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media, Lewis explained: “Nicky is a great character. He’s very relatable and likeable and I’m just having fun with him.
“When Nicky was 16, his mum passed away and he is the oldest of six. He’s basically looked after the kids growing up, so he had a lot of experience with kids and that’s what got him into nannying.
“Not everyone is on board in the interview, because Dawn obviously has a big problem with leaving the kids in the first place, so I think she is very particular on the type of person she wants and she is the hardest to win over.
“But I think straight away, even from the first interview, there’s some sort of connection there between Nicky and Gabby.”

It’s rare for a new soap character to be introduced without a shock secret, so Lewis was asked about the likelihood of a future bombshell.
He explained: “At the moment, Nicky is a lovely person and there’s nothing to say that he’s not.
“But he’s almost too good to be true – you’ll have to wait and see.”
Lewis also discussed the dynamic between Nicky and Kim, who has a reputation for being hard to please.

He said: “Obviously Kim would be the one that everyone is scared of and would be quite hard to get on with. But I think because Kim is so preoccupied and her priorities are the business and getting that to run smoothly, she’s all for Nicky being there.
“That takes away the kids and the responsibilities of that, so Dawn can finally focus on the business and Gabby can too.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
