Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale star Rosie Bentham has shared more details of Gabby Thomas’ latest romance storyline, which begins tonight (December 14) with the arrival of a new character.
Show bosses have cast Lewis Cope in the role of Nicky, a male nanny who gets hired at Home Farm to look after the kids while Gabby and Dawn Fletcher are busy working for Kim Tate.
In Wednesday’s hour-long episode, a handful of potential nannies arrive at Home Farm to be interviewed by Gabby, Dawn, Kim and Billy Fletcher.
While opinions are varied on who the best candidate is, Gabby is smitten when she sees handsome Nicky for the first time. Things go her way when Nicky is later hired.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media, Rosie explained: “Nicky isn’t the first person they interview. They go through the motions and someone has a problem with each of the interviewees.
“Then Nicky walks in and Gabby immediately is like: ‘Well, do we even need to ask him any questions? Like, this is just obvious!’ I think she actually calls him fit to his face!
“So I think Gabby’s intentions are very clear straight away. Then Nicky talks about the past, things that he’s done with kids and his previous nanny experience.”
Asked why Gabby is getting so easily distracted, Rosie replied: “Since Jamie, she’s not really had any male attention. I mean, she’s a mum at the end of the day, but she’s now trying to get in a bit more with Kim. Kim has offered her the new jobs.

“Then with Dawn comes that new rivalry – being the most successful, which Gabby has always been obsessed with. She’s being driven, she wants to be successful and have lots of money for her son. There’s a lot of rivalry with Dawn.
“Then a male walks in and that’s all thrown to the side! We’ve been filming quite a lot together and Gabby and Nicky do get along well at the minute. So there’s lots to come with that.”
Kim has recently promised to give a permanent Home Farm job to either Gabby or Dawn, depending on who impresses her the most during an extended trial period.
Discussing Gabby’s chances, Rosie added: “Well, Kim is very hard to please. Gabby’s doing everything to please her and show her how smart she is. She’s coming up with all these new ideas for The HOP and The Hide.

“Kim is encouraging, but she grounds Gabby a bit when she gets a bit too excited and she says: ‘You’ve got a lot to learn to be Kim Tate’. I’d say Dawn has got even more to learn because of her past.
“Gabby kind of reminds Dawn of her past and says, ‘I think I’d be better at this than you’, which is a shame because Dawn and Gabby were really good friends but business gets in the way of that and there’s a huge rivalry that’s formed.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
