Strictly star says cast were “locked in” studio after snowfall

Strictly Come Dancing star Fleur East has revealed she was “stranded” at the studio after the semi-final.

Last night’s (December 11) snowfall may have made the perfect festive ornament, but it sure caused trouble at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire.

East, who is competing with professional dance partner Vito Coppola, revealed she was stuck along with other members of the cast.

“I’ve come straight from the dancefloor after last night’s Strictly because we were locked in Elstree thanks to the snow,” she shared with co-hosts James Barr and Matt Haslam on The Hits Radio Breakfast Show with Fleur East.

“By the time I was leaving everyone was queuing and waiting to get in a taxi but no one could get out!” she continued, adding that even the judges were having a hard time figuring out what to do.

“Even Shirley Ballas was stranded, sat on the sofa waiting for a cab!”

East also explained that she and her co-stars soon realised the snow would settle, hence making their journeys back difficult.

“It was building up all night and as we were running in and out to do our two dances, we could see the snow falling and then just before the last dance everyone was like, ‘That snow is really thick’ and I thought then, ‘How are we going to get home?’

“In the end, no one could leave because the snow was so bad!”

East and Coppola are among the Strictly semi-finalists trying to secure their spot in next week’s final, alongside Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal, Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu, EastEnders star Will Mellor and Nancy Xu and Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez.

Strictly Come Dancing‘s final airs on Saturday (December 17) at 7.05pm on BBC One, while spin-off show Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows also stream on BBC iPlayer.
