Strictly’s Gorka responds to claims he was “fuming” about Hamza’s win

Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka Márquez has addressed claims he was looking glum when Hamza Yassin was announced as this year’s winner.

Wildlife presenter Hamza and his pro partner Jowita Przystał got the Glitterball trophy at the end of this year’s finale. Meanwhile, Gorka and presenter Helen Skelton were among the runners-up, together with Fleur East and Vito Coppola and Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu.

In a recent interview on Helen’s BBC Radio 5 show, Gorka responded to accusations he was looking miserable while Hamza and Jowita were being celebrated.

He continued: “Whoever won, it was amazing because the three couples have been incredible, but we care and we love our job.”

Helen said she was “delighted” for Hamza, while admitting to be gutted over their own defeat.

“Obviously we’re delighted for Hamza because he put in some amazing dances through the season, but you and I, our reaction, you could tell how gutted we were,” she said.

“Gorka has had all my stress, all my nerves. Week one, I hid on the fire escape saying I didn’t want to do it and now we got two standing ovations – that’s our trophy, mate.”

Strictly Come Dancing‘s final aired on December 17 on BBC One, while spin-off show Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows also stream on BBC iPlayer.
