Strictly’s Oti Mabuse reacts to the show’s historic winner


Former Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse has praised winner Jowita Przystal for becoming the first female professional dancer to win in their first year.

Mabuse, who left the BBC’s dancing competition earlier this year, took to Instagram to share a sweet tribute to Przystal.

“SHE IS STRICTLY THE GREATEST DANCER!!!!! @jowitaprzystal has made history never ever ever ever ever in the history of strictly has a FEMALE PRO in her first year WON the show!!!!” Oti wrote.

The dancer also gave a shoutout to presenter Hamza Yassin, Pryzstal’s celebrity partner, writing: “massive congratulations a big huge one for you and for your family and Africa!!!”

“The two of you are spectacular just out of this world,” she continued, referring to Yassin and Przystal.

Przystal responded to Oti’s message, writing: “Thank you love, don’t stop believing.”

Mabuse’s sister Motsi, who serves as a judge on the show, commented: “Queens calling out queens [is] what we need.”

On her own Instagram page, Pryzstal recapped her journey with Yassin, writing: “Seeing you pushing the boundaries, going out of your comfort zone, working so hard throughout those 13 weeks made me the proudest teacher. You’ve proven everything is possible if you’re willing to fight for it.”

For his part, Yassin thanked his partner, calling her “an angel disguised as a human being” and “a ray of sunshine”.

“Thank you for your trust and guidance throughout this incredible journey. You shone a light for me that got me through some tough weeks and you have been by my side every step of the way,” Yassin wrote on Instagram.

“You will go on to do great things in your life. It was my pleasure to be your student. I will forever be greatful [sic] for how you have changed my life.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One, while spin-off show Strictly: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two. Both shows also stream on BBC iPlayer.
